Editor’s Welcome

Dear Chapman Law community,

Welcome back on campus and welcome to Volume 25 of Chapman Law Review.

My name is Ji hea Oh and I have the privilege of serving as this year’s Editor-in-Chief. I am especially honored to work alongside the Executive Board members who are some of the brightest and most hardworking individuals that I have met in my law school journey. Last year, I watched my fellow editors diligently produce quality work despite the onset of a worldwide pandemic. Their tenacity to learn Bluebook rules by attending virtual office hours with Senior Articles Editors and research librarians emphasized their dedication towards furthering Chapman Law Review as a distinguished publication. I have no doubt that this challenging experience has better equipped us to meet the dynamic demands of the publication process.

Of course, I cannot highlight the success of this year’s staff without acknowledging the guidance and wisdom imparted on us from last year’s Executive Board. I owe a particular debt of gratitude to my predecessor, Sirine Yared, who worked tirelessly to implement structural changes to promote a more inclusive membership.

In hopes of continuing this effort, I took the opportunity to collaborate with our very first Executive Diversity Editor to create a free-response portion to our annual Write-On. I believe this more holistic process allowed us to welcome 20 new Staff Editors who are not only excellent students but also possess a passion for the publication process. I have no doubt that they will make significant contributions toward the production of an outstanding volume and look forward to their future success.

As always, our editors will serve as the backbone of Chapman Law Review and enable us to spotlight novel pieces that advance legal scholarship. Law reviews remain one of the main ways to voice innovative legal thought and I believe it is critical to be continuously mindful of selecting pieces that diversify this academic landscape. As such, it is my goal to continue pushing the envelope and finding new ways of cultivating our publication as a space where diversity and compelling scholarly work meet.

Sincerely,

Ji hea Oh
